About

We built Plumbwright because plumbers shouldn't lose jobs to a ringing phone.

Plumbwright is a small studio focused on one thing — installing the AI front desk for plumbing companies. This page is the long version of who we are, who we serve, what the AI actually is, and how we handle the parts of the job (consent, opt-outs, call recording) that need more than a checkbox.

Founder story

Why we built this.

We watched too many plumbing companies lose good jobs to a phone that nobody could pick up — the call after hours, the call during a job, the call on a Saturday. The crew is on a roof, the owner is on a call, the receptionist left for the day.

Generic AI answering services don't understand plumbing — they book appointments the wrong way, mishandle emergencies, and sound like a call center. So we built the thing we wished existed: a receptionist that knows the job, books it correctly, and hands off to a human on the edges that need one.

Plumbwright is a small, focused studio. We work with plumbing companies, not every vertical. That keeps the receptionist sharp on the calls that matter.

Three things we're opinionated about

Why plumbing.

One vertical means the receptionist knows the work — diagnostics, dispatch, after-hours triage, water-heater windows. Generic AI misses all of it.

Why AI.

A real receptionist costs more than most plumbing shops can justify for after-hours coverage. AI gives every call a two-ring answer, every night, at a price that fits a small shop's books.

Why now.

The plumbing companies that answer every call are winning the jobs the others are losing. We're helping the second group catch up — with the boring infrastructure (consent, recording, opt-out) handled properly.

Service area

Plumbing companies. That's it.

Plumbwright installs the AI front desk only for plumbing companies — residential shops, light-commercial crews, drain-and-sewer specialists, water-heater and water-treatment operators. We don't serve HVAC, electrical, roofing, or general contractors. The narrower the scope, the better the receptionist sounds on the calls that matter.

Geography is still general for now. We don't list specific cities or regions yet — if you run a plumbing company and want to see whether your area is open, send a short note and we'll tell you directly.

Plumbing only

No HVAC, electrical, roofing, or general contracting. The receptionist is trained for plumbing — diagnostics, drain calls, water-heater windows, and after-hours triage.

English-speaking teams (primary)

The receptionist's primary language is English, plumbing-fluent. Other languages are on the roadmap — for now, ask whether your shop's callers are covered.

Geography still general

No pinned regions yet. If your plumbing company wants to find out whether your area is open, just ask — we'll reply inside one business day.

AI disclosure · plain English

What the AI is, what it records, and who can listen.

Customers ask whether they're talking to a person or a machine, what gets recorded, and who hears it. Here are the straight answers — no model names, no provider jargon.

What the AI is

A computer program that answers the phone on behalf of your shop. It speaks in plain English, asks what the caller needs, takes a message, or offers a booking slot.

  • · It's not a person. It tells the caller that on the first sentence.
  • · It's trained on plumbing calls, not a generic answer service.
  • · On edges it can't handle, it hands off to a human at your shop.
  • · It does not pretend to be your receptionist by name.
  • · It writes a short summary of every call into your CRM.

What it records

The call audio and a written transcript. Both are stored only as long as you need them to operate the shop and meet your records obligations.

  • · Call audio and transcript — yes, recorded.
  • · Caller's number, name, and booking intent — captured.
  • · Card numbers, social security numbers, passwords — never asked for.
  • · Recordings are not used to “train” the system on your callers.
  • · Default retention is 90 days; your shop can shorten or extend it.

Who can listen

Only the people who need to operate the call — your shop's owner, the assigned dispatcher, and the human who takes a handoff. Nobody else, including us, listens by default.

  • · Your owner / dispatcher / on-call rota — for operating the call.
  • · The human who takes a handoff — hears the same audio the caller heard.
  • · You, the shop owner, can pull any recording on request.
  • · We don't listen to calls unless you ask us to, to debug a specific one.
  • · Call data is not sold, shared, or used for any other purpose.

TCPA posture

Marketing texts need documented consent — no exceptions.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) sets a high bar for text messages and auto-dialed calls. We treat it as a floor, not a ceiling. Three commitments, operational, not a footnote.

1. No marketing texts without documented consent.

Before the receptionist sends any promotional, reminder, or follow-up text, there's a paper trail. Documented consent means one of these, recorded with a timestamp:

  • · The caller checked a clear opt-in box on a web signup form linked to that number.
  • · The caller gave recorded verbal consent at first contact, with the recording preserved.
  • · The caller signed a written intake at the office that explicitly authorized texts from your shop.

If a contact has consented to operational texts (appointments, dispatch) but not to marketing, they get operational texts only. The two are tracked separately.

2. Scripts actively avoid Do-Not-Call contacts.

Before any outbound or follow-up contact, lists are scrubbed against the national Do-Not-Call Registry and, where applicable, the state-specific list for the caller's area code. Matches are suppressed — not queued for “review”, dropped.

  • · National DNC list — checked before any non-operational contact.
  • · State DNC lists — applied where state law is stricter than federal law.
  • · Internal DNC — any contact who's opted out is suppressed across all marketing comms.
  • · Scrubs run daily, and any newly added DNC entry takes effect immediately.

3. Every contact has a clear opt-out path.

Every text we send (operational and marketing) includes a working opt-out instruction. Opt-outs are honored immediately and across every channel — text, call, email — for that contact.

  • · Reply STOP to any text — honored on the same business day, no questions.
  • · Send a written request (email, letter, a message to the shop) — honored the same way.
  • · On opt-out, the contact is suppressed across all marketing comms and flagged in the CRM so the shop doesn't re-add them later.
  • · Operational texts (appointment confirmations, dispatch updates) keep going for an active service — the contact can opt out of those separately.

A note on scope —we don't claim to be lawyers, and we don't replace your shop's compliance review. What we do is build the operational defaults in the system so the defaults are conservative, audit-ready, and aligned with both the TCPA and the state rules that layer on top.
